It's like giving Patton a year to plan the Battle of the Bulge.

What if he didn't watch any film at all and completely ignored the game for 9 months or so and is now in some kind of Zen-like transcendent state where he just intuitely knows what to do?

Since we're throwing stuff at the wall and everything ...

Don't think a year off while knowing he was going to return makes any diff.

Plenty of successful coaches with some time off between stints-

Parcells- 1983-1990 NYG, 2 years off then Patriots, 1997-1999 NYJ, 3 years off then Cowboys

Shanahan- 1988-2008 Denver, 1 year off then Redskins. He talked about how he needed a breather and came back refreshed.

Jeff Fisher- 1994-2010 Titans, 1 year off then Rams. He also mentioned the benefit of getting his batteries charged in a year off.

Tom Coughlin- 1995-2002 Jax, 1 year off then NYG

Vince Lombardi- 1959-1967 GB, 1 year off then Redskins
