How great would Fernando Torres be for the USMNT?

I know it is fun to make fun of how far he has fallen, but would he be a star for the USMNT? Obviously he has some of the best service in the world as he finishes many of these garbage goals, but he has scored a lot for Chelsea (especially considering how an American would do) despite how disappointing he has been.

I feel like when Dempsey had his great season for Fulham, he was taking a ton of shots and missing some easy chances. Torres seems like a better version of Dempsey sometimes (I am aware they are not playing the same position), and we LOVE Dempsey.

Maybe I am way off base here. Just trying to start some discussion. I am not committed to anything I said.

Skill wise he'd probably be our GOAT. I mean his years at liverpool he would have scored in buckets against concacaf.

Probably not that great in all honesty. He would score goals for sure, but he is nowhere near as clinical as he used to be. Which means the USMNT would have to create copious amounts of chances, something we really struggle to do.

I think Dempsey is not super clinical at finishing in all honesty. He is the best we have, but that doesn't mean he is the best.

Dempsey plays in the hole behind the striker or out wide. Torres plays as the main striker. Apples and oranges my friend.

Dude Dempsey is the most technical and clinical player we have sans MB90.

I am very aware of the distinction.

I guess that is the point of the thread. We abuse Torres on this board while he sucks for one of the best clubs in the world and one of the best national teams in the world, but I think we would cut him A LOT of slack if he was playing for us, and I actually think that kind of slack would be great for his confidence.

He's got 37 goals for spain. A fair amount of those goals were scored against pretty terrible teams, and Concacaf is full of terrible teams. We would adore him

Maybe, maybe not. This board is hard as frick on some of our better players SnoFro, Jozy.. But others get a pass like Donovan, Boca, Deuce.. Those guys seemingly never get put on blast on here. All that being said, idk how Torres would fit into the USMNT other than he would score a good bit of goals.

Now that Jozy's in form for us, we're back to worshiping him

He knocked one past Lahm and that mentally deranged keeper for the Euro 2008 win.

Other than that, he´s done nothing (well, that´s enough for me, anyway).
