I forgot about Broussard...
Without looking at the stats I'll take Rumbelow over Bourgeois closing any day. So they had the same amount of walks, but it seems like Joey will walk 2 or 3 in a row and throw the next pitch into the grandstands. Plus his out pitch is nowhere near as potent as Rumbelow. Then again Rumbelow started in the summer league so CPM might be looking at him in the Sunday role as well.

I'd rather see some of our great hitting prospects reach their potential this year. Last year proved that pitching (alone) can't carry us to a CWS title. SB didn't have "all world" pitchers and they certainly exposed us.

Yeah, the ingredients for a legit national title contender with this team basically boils down to 3 things:
-- a third baseman
-- a 3rd outfielder
-- a 3rd starting pitcher
It's interesting all the different combinations that can work with Katz/Moore/Foster/Rhymes at 1B/OF/DH, but the key thing is to get 2 new guys in the lineup who can help produce runs, one of which has to be able to play 3B.
Finding a 3rd reliable starting pitcher might simply be a game of numbers. Just throw all the potential candidates out there until one of them finally clicks in that spot.

SB had pretty good talent on the mound. Their ace was lights out and pitched poorly in the CWS because he was overworked. Their Saturday guy was pretty dominant and threw too many pitches as well. Our last CWS championship was when we had outstanding pitching and decent hitting. Coleman, Renaudo, and Ott ring a bell? Don't get me wrong, out bats were solid, but pitching carried us.

Cotton has never gone more than 3 innings in a row, and he's only gone that deep twice. He is a lefty specialist and most of his appearances last year were in middle relief with lefties up in the lineup. Almost exactly half of the hitters he faced were lefties and they hit .100 against him (6 for 60) Right handed hitters had around a .350 BA against him. He had 36 appearances with 46 IP. To pin him as a starter is pretty far fetched in my book. He's good at what he does but I don't believe he can go 7 innings week in and week out.

Rumor is he has the inside track to sunday starter

Baseball America had him penciled in for that role in its preseason edition ( LINK), so yeah, it's safe to say that he has an inside track.

oh really

Bonvillian may have the "inside track" and may very well end up becoming the Sunday starter by, say, the postseason... but I still think that it could also be any one of a handful of guys. CPM will give them shots in the early weekends to prove themselves even if Bonvillian pitches well early.

Bat girls - front row, 4th from left. 1st rounder.
