I've really yet to have one single person give me an adequate reason why we got rid of Jarrett Jack.

I was sad to see Jack go. I think the team misses his leadership as much as his production. But he was traded because:

1) Jarret Jack allowed the team to get Robin Lopez
2) Give a healthy Eric Gordon 36 minutes a game and our opinions of Vasquez, Rivers and Mason all change. With Gordon, Vasquez and Jack on the roster Rivers would be getting 5 minutes a game and they wanted to develop him. Whether it's a trade demand or a legit injury, moving Jack suggests the FO was expecting Gordon to be playing right now.

Jack used to frustrate the shite out of me. At times, he looked like a legit starting point, but he used to run out the shot clock way too often. It was not uncommon for him to still be dribbling when the clock went off. That's just a total lack of awareness, which is bad for a point guard. Jack would be a damn good scoring point off the bench, but he just doesn't create enough, in my opinion.

Like TigerinATL is saying, it all comes down to Gordon. I keep saying it, but I think Gordon and Vasquez would end up greater than the sum of the parts because they can switch on defense and cover their weaknesses. Also, Gordon gives you a "faster" guard to run the breaks.

Tanking was bearable last year because of the shortened season. If they tell us in 2 weeks that Gordon is having surgery and done for the year it will be hard for many to stay interested in a bottom 5 team another 5 months. The only way it gets exciting is if this year's draft class starts having break out games in March and makes the draft look exciting.

Cap space and the youth movement. We're sacrificing this season to get our young guys more experience. We were just supposed to have competitive losses, not blowouts.

That's not a good reason unless you think our current pg's besides general have a future with us

1) Maybe, but I'm not too sure Lopez is really THAT much better than Smith. Of all the places on this roster we needed some help at in the off-season, C/PF was pretty down on that list.

2)I get all of that, and I'm sure Gordon can adequately play the 1 in the NBA (I guess, I really don't have the sample size to be certain of that), but I'm just not sure how you go into the season with one true PG on your roster, and a fairly mediocre one at that and expect to compete with anyone halfway decent.

Exactly. I really do enjoy watching the Hornets, good or bad, but man I'm just not sure I can handle being downright terrible again. And not even particularly interesting to watch kind of terrible, just, really bad.

Rebuilding is great and all, and I know it's very early in that whole process, but when your two biggest pieces of the puzzle can't ever stay on the court, it gets pretty discouraging.
