Today is the big day.

Should hear something in decent detail after Fridays meeting.

If the NHL really wanted to make it up to its fans they would contact HBO and offer access to every playoff team's locker room.

HBO 24/7 : Road To The Stanley Cup Final.

didn't the nba offer league pass for free last year? I hope the NHL at least offers the online Gamecenter for free. I'm not expecting a deal today but something soon. They have till the end of next week to get a deal if they want to start Dec 1.

Go Devils! gotta protect that eastern conference crown!

Nice!

Both sides are to blame for this. I think this shortened season was the plan all along. The NHL makes very little revenue in October / Movember.

Otherwise, why wouldn't they do these discussions in August?

Here's to hoping for another year of trash talking between the northeastern corridor teams (I'm gunning for you ovechkin fanboys!) and hopefully Nashville can continue their momentum, and for christs sakes can we get stamkos into the playoffs??

Go Rangers! Hopefully the new deal allows the Rangers to spend money like pacman jones in a strip club.

I kid, I kid, the league sucks when only 4 teams are good, hopefully they don't frick up the parity.

Well just to update this, Friday nights talks broke down and went into the shitter.

quote:

A bigger problem might be a wider gap between the sides than the players thought. After three seemingly positive days of talks, things went a bit sour Friday night when negotiations ended for the day. The union was under the impression the numbers suggested they were closer to an agreement. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman disagreed.

"They came back to us and said, 'No, we are very very far apart on the structure of the deal.'"

There were vocal disagreements at the end of the session, and the union team went back to its office to hold a conference call with the executive board and other players. The union is beginning to feel that the NHL isn't ready to make a deal now, even if the players were suddenly willing to accept the league's offer in full — which they are not.

About time to say frick it, RIP NHL.

Guess the NHL didn't learn from a few years ago when a whole season was canceled

It's not owners vs. players it owners vs. owners. Until they resolve their internal fissure, there can be no settlement.

Yes, Bettman sucks.

Some good NHL labor news

OK, I'm reaching here. But still, after a conversation I had today with Pens player rep Craig Adams, it's clear the NHLPA wants to keep negotiating despite last weekend's less than ideal ending to talks. Also, Bill Daly confirmed to the Tribune-Review today that the league has no current plans to cancel games beyond Dec. 1. In other words, there are going to be talks again, and soon.

The only good news is how well Ovie and Backstrom are playing together on the Dynamo. Gave Backs #69 and he scores a hat trick...
