The experts seem to think that defense is the Lakers problem. So clearly D'Antoni is the answer
defense in the NBA regular season is 90% effort and 10% scheme. The lakers problem on defense is they were all pissed about how they had to grind on offense so they acted out and didnt play defense
that is why brown was fired, the team was on the verge of outright quitting on him

an expert would see that d'antoni's defense schematically isn't really the problem.
it's never having a dominant interior defender, and having players either unmotivated (Carmelo) or unable to be adequate defenders.
There's no defense that's going to be able to make Nash be able to guard quick PGs, or make Pau (a C by today's standards) guard true 4s.
No Howard led defense is going to finish out of the top 10. And when that happens, are people going to say. WOW D'Antoni figured out how to coach D? probably.
and they'll be stupid.

pissed? or tired from all the unnecessary motion?
and four hour shootarounds...

my question is not the X and Os it is the players showing Dantoni respect. The best thing about Phil is his ability to manage egos. That is not Dantoni's strong suit
D'Antoni does give off the 'push over' impression, but I think his system largely benefits the starting five:
- Kobe should have no problems as he will be featured in numerous pick and rolls while still receiving his isolation plays when he wants. Let's be real, no one is going to change how he plays.
- Nash will obviously love him because of their relationship and the familiarity.
- Dwight should settle in nicely as the main piece in the pick and roll with a bevvy of talent around him and one of the top passers in the league running the show. He should see fewer double teams and easier FG attempts
- Pau is interesting. I'm wondering if the Lakers reduce his starting minutes to feature him more when Dwight is on the bench, or if they just move him out of the paint and ask him to hit mid range jumpers. Good thing about Pau is that he typically goes with the flow on this team.
- Metta's role should not change. Just hit some open shots when called upon and stay out of the way.
I am concerned with the bench play. I think Steve Blake will be awful in D'Antoni's system if he's running the show, and I'm not really confident in any of the bench players hitting open shots.

Hill played under this system for a while too if memory serves.
I really don't think Meeks will be any better or worse. He's a streaky shooter that can give you 2 points on 1-4 shooting or 15 on 5-7 on any given night regardless of offense.

Hill didn't have very nice things to say about D'Antoni, should make for an awkward conversation at the first practice.
Forgot Duhon had that 22 assist game under D'Antoni

tell me that one of the best 3 pointers in a game, won't be better in a system that allows nay encourages him to let fly?

I think that entirely depends on the amount of minutes he plays. Five games in, he has played significantly less minutes than he did in Philly. It's much more difficult to get a rhythm going when you barely play, especially for a streaky shooter.

They did this last year when they added Tyson Chandler. they went from worst in the league the year before into the top half of the league last year, the main change being CHandler.
Having Howard is huge, really the only way this would work.

i don't know why kobe and dwight don't just take big steps up and manage the defense
kobe just has to buckle down and take a secondary role as a stopper first, scorer second
if you have a stopper at the rim and on the perimeter, you can do things
I really don't think Kobe has the athleticism to be a perimeter stopper anymore. I'm not sure effort will stop people from blowing past him, but I could be wrong.
Regardless you're right though, they need someone on the perimeter because MWP ain't that guy, and Dwight can only do so much.
