55 years old, maybe 10 pounds overweight, non drinker/smoker. Exercise inconsistent. Cac score 100 and some plaque in carotid. Total cholesterol 250, hdl 56. Dr wants to start crestor. I’m scared and looking for any advice. Already started dieting and picking up the workouts.

Find a doctor you trust and follow his lead. Relate to him your fears and concerns. No telling what responses you’ll get here.

I scored a 25 which I thought was good. My cardiologist told me a good score is 0. Any positive number was an indication that I can be predisposed to having problems. He said to exercise, keep on my statin and low dose aspirin. All stuff I’m already doing.

Get your diet in order, start lifting 3 days a week, stop eating crap and lose the 10 lbs or even more
Get on low dose statin, and you need to get 100% promgrante juice. Has to be not from concentrate and take 8oz per day.
Also nattokinase and citrus bergmont. 6-8 pills of each daily

Damn I wish I knew how to do links but there is a lot of interesting information coming out about Vit K2.
Look on Cleveland Clinic health essentials website.
Some info I have found states that K2 helps clear arteries of calcium deposited in them.
“ Vitamin K2 activates MGP which helps clear arteries and reduce heart disease risk”.
Lots of other benefits of K2 are healthy bones and teeth, may help prevent kidney stones, may reduce cancer risk.
Food sources:Natto (never eaten it),sauerkraut, some cheeses( Munster,Edam and aged Gouda),beef liver, chicken, egg yolks.
Most likely will have to take supplements to get adequate amounts.Only things on the list that I eat regularly are eggs.Occasional chicken,I like liver but wife doesn’t and it’s a chore to get her to cook it.
Stil need to eat a prudent diet and exercise.

I wouldn’t buy this book. Just go find all his podcasts related to cardiovascular disease and listen for free. They are way more informative than this book.

Lol 55 and calc 100? Must be nice
Im 40 and did my calc back in feb.. 435
I work out 3-4 days a week, eat good for most part. Dont drink, never smoked in my life, zero other health issues.
So here is what we did.
Ekg-perfect
Echocardiogram-perfect
Nuclear stress test- perfect
Bloodwork/lipids- everything perfect BUT cholesterol, my total was 201 and LDL (the bad cholesterol) was 148
His plan, crestor 20mg to lower cholesterol to prevent more buildup. Been on it exactly 2 months and did my lipid panel again last week. Total was down to 115, and LDL down to 61.
I was super scared at first of high calc score, but after talking to the cardio + my own research.. the calc score isnt the end all and while im not saying its useless, or i wouldnt had done it myself... it doesnt tell enough. It just shows you have calcified plaque, does not show if any is inside the artery restricting any blood flow. It could be inside the artery wall and harmless. And honestly the soft plaque breaking away is what is more dangerous. Cardio told me he has had people come in with calcium scores over 1000 and do a heart cath and no blockages.. had people come in with 0 calc score and have heart attack 2 months later. Just take care of yourself and live life, calc score isnt some death sentence dude

Attia does an excellent podcast. However, it can get very heady and technical far beyond normal conversations.

I love how I give real options to lower the calcium score unlike all others and I get by far the most down votes.

Not among them, but maybe it was the 16 pills a day.

Thanks for sharing. Curious, did they check your carotid artery?

I didnt downvote you. And i have no clue what your credidentials are. But every cardiologist ive talked to said you can not reduce calcium score, everything ive ever read on it says the same. Outside of maybe a couple points, you dont reduce calcium score

100% pomegranate juice- There are studies showing plaque reductions at 13%, 22%, 26% and 35% at months 3 then 6 then 9 then 12 which is beyond remarkable

Pomegranate juice calcium score
also vitamin K2
from dante who works with tons of guys juiced to the gills freaked about blood work
quote:
Two things that definitively have been shown to not only stop plaque buildup but to reverse plaque buildup are Vitamin k2 (especially the MK-7 version (longer acting) but best is both the mk-7 and mk-4 (shorter acting) versions. Probably thru my studies the most potent anti plaque / anti atherosclerosis supplement Ive ever come across. It absolutely needs to be used with Vitamin D as they work together synergistically. There are studies out there that show excess calcium intake in the over 500mg to 1000mg range really advance calcification of the arterial walls so do not exceed 200-400mg calcium a day.
plenty of studies showing cirtus Bergmont helps control and lower ldl/vldl/triglycerides while raising HDL
Nattokinase is the #1 thing to take to prevent a stroke imo also has been shown to help hdl and calcium score
quote:
nattokinase compared to a statin in regression of plaque and Nattokinase regressed plaque in blood vessels by 36.6 percent compared to a statins 11.5%
