Searched. Nothing.

Is the main benefit from machining the remaining 20% of lower yourself is eliminating the need to have a serial number thus telling the Fed. to piss off?

Plenty of YouTube videos but I trust the board much more so.

One would still need to purchase the upper, a parts kit, jig, and mill?

Or it saves you the 40 mile drive to an FFL.

Prevents them from illegally cataloging guns/owners, prevents them from violating your 2A rights, and gives you a reason to go to your workshop to drink beer.

correct, they are typically cheaper than completed lowers and avoid and FFL transfer on top of all the other things people have mentioned. Takes about an hour to mill one out and that alone is typically worth the $45-50 I save doing it myself. Also a big fan of cerakoting and buying raw lowers saves a step.

Only needs a serial number if you sell it. Also if you buy them with the intent to build and sell that's afoul of the rules as well. That is my understanding anyway. I built a pistol for the novelty of it.

Fun little job.

Takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

Try it out. Something satisfying about seeing all that aluminum being machined away.
