Talented, but inconsistent returning starter for potential senior season.

Redshirt freshman QB returning for next year that many feel is the next star.

Anxiety over status of freshman QB should current starter return for senior season.

Acknowledgement that current starter is a solid player that a team can win with, but win what? A high floor, but low ceiling.

I fully expect DJ Uiagalelei to transfer to the west coast for next season and play his senior year at a Pac 12 school. It's probably best for both parties.

What will Jayden Daniels do?

He could go pro. While I don't think he is ready, there is 4 years of film on him already. He's started 41 games in his career. I don't know what he could do next year to change what scouts currently think of him. I'm sure they exist, but I don't know of any players with that much playing time that made a significant draft leap in their 5th season.

He could transfer. He transferred as a grad transfer, so I believe he still has his one-time transfer to use. I don't think he will go this route.

He could stay. I believe this is what will happen, but will he ask for (or be given) any assurances that he is the starter next year? Will there be an open competition?

I personally think Daniels is a decent college quarterback. A team can win with him. LSU would have done worse this year without him. But, like Alabama with Jalen Hurts, there was a ceiling. Saban knew that his freshman was better and he told Hurts to move on.

What will happen at LSU? We will see.

Whats he gonna play in the NFL? I don't think its QB. However, he is athletic enough that he could be a slot/hybrid type guy and make a good career for himself. Maybe he'd be willing to start that transition at LSU next year if he gets beat out? He could rack up a lot of yards for us and be a true difference maker offensively.

Brether, the success of 4th & 5th year QBs cannot be understated

Let’s look at a few from this year

Hendon Hooker Tenn
Michael Penix Washington
Bo Nix Oregon
Max Dugan TCU
Jordan Travis FSU
Stetson Bennett UGA

To name a few

JD could probably be a really good PR. Which is something we need. Could play WR too. Think Antwaan Randle El or Braxton Miller

I said nothing of success. I said "draft status" of a career starter playing one more year.

Can Jayden Daniels have a very good season next year as a college quarterback? Absolutely.

Will his draft status improve from where it is today? Very doubtful.

All of those guys have improved their draft stock though.

In footbal, age development is a little less sensitive compared to other sports

Joe burrow in two years went from having no draft stock going into 2018 to being the 1st rd pick.

Jalen Hurts improved his draft stock immensely as a 4th year player.

It’s proven time and time again that development is not always completely linear.

This is unprovable, because projections are far from accurate.

Hooker was a top 5-10 QB last year and still is. He was projected as the No.6 QB preseason by SI.

Nix, Duggan and Bennett could all three go undrafted. None of them are rated in the top 5 rounds.

He should move to WR or DB. He is no man's QB.

Everything I've read or heard about JD's draft stock is that he's projected to be around a 7th round pick. That was before this season and it's still the same projection. JD hasn't really improved from AZ. St. He was a freshman phenom that never regained his form. He's looked better than last year but it's about on par with his freshman year.

His unwillingness to throw many routes probably isn't helping his draft stock either. Our WR group is better than many think and I would imagine scouts know this as well. JD could've really helped himself by trusting his guys. In the end, he knows his arm ability better than anyone so maybe there's a reason he doesn't attempt passes into tight windows. I think what JD is reading as being cautious, scouts are reading it as lacking confidence.

Early during the season when a commentator spoke about talking with the coaching staff and being told that they've removed the plays from the playbook the JD doesn't like, that was a sign to me that Denbrock is being limited in his play-calling. This staff needs to provide JD a REALLY good QB coach if he returns. He has to improve on reading defenses pre-snap and he has to develop an internal clock when he needs to get rid of the ball.

There are just so many factors that can be contributed back to JD and his holding the ball too long. I've watched so much film breakdown on YouTube after every game to the point I feel like part of the staff.

Denbrock is definitely a better OC than our fans know. However, poor execution is usually the culprit. I think JD should enter the draft. Honestly, the question to me isn't will another season improve his stock. The real question is will another season make him good enough to actually play (and stick around) the NFL. I just don't see a QB that's afraid to make most throws and gives the appearance of not being able to read the defense playing at the next level. Unless you have VERY EXCEPTIONAL arm talent, you have no choice but to constantly go to your guys in 1 on 1 situations where coverage is tighter than it should be. QB's in the NFL are much better than fans give them credit for. SB for UGA is quick with his decision-making and just athletic enough to buy time to get the ball out. JD doesn't have an exceptional arm and is extremely slow with his decision-making. Bad combo for the NFL.
