First time poster. Has anyone visited Merida? Headed down there at the end of February. Looking for some must dos and don’ts. Thanks

Go to the market.
It has been too many years since I have been to give any recommendations. Hope you have a great time.

I was there in 2005 in August. It's different from the Mexico most folks in the US visit in that the terrain is flat compared to when I visited Mexico City and Cuernavaca.

Merida is pretty cool. Admittedly; it’s been a few years since I’ve been. Lots of Expats there.
Do visit some of the Mayan ruins if you have a chance. Don’t make yourself a target by wearing expensive clothes, jewelry or electronics. Petty crime is a thing.
My biggest memory was how noisy it is. Particularly in the evenings. Local business owners think music will attract customers. So they crank it up. Often using singers in front of the shop. Then the neighboring business does the same and so on.

Less than two hours by car to Chichen-Itza, one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen.
Get there when the gates open and quickly walk to the back to get as much privacy as possible before more folks get there.

Go to the Mariachi snack bar and order a charritos bowl.
Just saw a food doc on Netflix and Merida had a segment.
