There are people who adopt dogs who are old and losing their long time home for whatever time they have left.

I have done it 4 times in the last 12 years and am looking into another dog now. The dogs are my family.

OP, don't dump your poor dog in a kill shelter; find a loving home for her/him to live out the rest of it's days.

ps, you are a crappy person to even think of doing this after you have been that dog's family for 11 years.

Man, this thread is brutal. To the OP, do what you think is best. Having three kids is stressful enough I’m sure much less a dog that requires constant attention. 11 years is along time to rehome a dog but it’s understandable

That’s awesome, I want to do Sr rescue once I retire
Since I’m a ways from that I will foster every so often
When they get adopted it’s tough, doesn’t matter I only had them a month or 2 & know they are going to a great home
