If so, I'm not buying it.
It's been ~10 years since I've read it, but yes. It really was a beautiful site, but it was built with cheap materials, on very swampy ground, and with an insanely tight deadline.

"Cheap Material" -- mostly INCORRECT
It has been researched and discovered that organizers hurriedly constructed some flimsy structures and mixed them in with the existing Romanesque palaces and architecture to help cover their narrative. I
Above are photos of 4 buildings that still exist 128 years later. They were constructed out of the SAME material (granite) as the most of the others that were destroyed.
