One of my favorite all time movies. I have one question. When Eduard was being executed did John suffer his execution for him? John made a comment that eduard was the lucky one but is in a better place now.

I just thought John experienced it with him, went through it with him. John has to keep living with the pain that he's experience in his life until he's executed, maybe that makes Eduard lucky.
Lucky one could also be not having to go through it alone, he's 'saved', his pain is over.

Dell had paid is debt and was free of the pain. John would have to go on feeling pain from the evil in the world. That is how I interpreted it.

Would be one of my absolute favorites, but the dry sponge scene ruins it for me. Tough to watch.
