I was always under the impression that the dominant/larger bucks kept that from happening. Heard they would kill any small buck that even tried if given the opportunity.

I'm sure on occasion a spike gets a little bit.

But consensus is the mature bucks keep the hot does on lock down so to speak.

Im no expert...that is why we are having this conversation

No. There isn’t enough mature bucks. Mature bucks can only breed so many does, and they they may spends a few days with a single doe.

On almost every property, you have a shortage of mature bucks. I’d rather have mature six points than few mature bucks at all. Instead of looking for an excuse to kill a buck (cull), look for an excuse to give them another year. Instead of thinking about taking genes out of the herd, take a mouth out of the herd. Has the buck become all he can be?
