It's a matter of perspective from the coaches view point also. Not every coach has the desire to be Nick Saban. If there is a coach out there who is satisfied with winning 8 games every year and making it to a bowl game, Vandy and schools like it wouldn't be a bad job. Those schools don't expect to be in contention for a NC. Most of them don't expect to be in contention for a conference title. It amazes me how short our memories are. Going undefeated or having no more than one loss seems to be a prerequisite for the CFP. Even during the BCS era, a two loss LSU team won the NC in 2007. The concept that teams simply cannot afford to lose a game is a very new concept in college football and as a result, we all tend to think that if a coach loses 3-4 games in a season then they suck. That isn't always the case. The BCS/CFP have ruined some decent coaches careers in my opinion.
