And that was the class before COVID-19 when you could evaluate talent in your camps and in person. Orgeron massively failed.
Ironic that he was promoted from interim because of his “recruiting abilities” and that was his first full class. He was also on the staff as recruiting coordinator since 2015 so it’s not like he needed time to form relationships

3 of those guys are in the NFL today, 2 of them performing at a very high level. Looks like a good chance at least 2-3 more will make it there, as well (Rosenthal, Clark, ...)
I think Orgeron's classes exhibit a boom-or-bust trait, similar to a big homerun hitter in baseball who also leads his team in strikeouts. He pulls in absolute stars, but also misses on a lot.
I think in the pre-portal days this worked better because the middling talent could not just transfer away so you had depth and you trusted your stars to be better than the other teams' stars, and it usually worked. With the portal, managing depth at key positions is just so much different. You're actually better off with a more even talent curve in your recruiting classes and then cherry picking transfers for a season. This is what Bama is doing, and to make it worse, their average talent is high 4 star level.
