As a side note, I wish there were DM's here (so as not to derail the thread), but wanted to get your thoughts on Marmol for the Cards? And my buddy and I have been talking and trying to find anything that gives more explanation on why they got rid of Shildt. Figured if anyone might know anything more, it would be you.

Marmol will be fine. He'll do whatever the front office tells him to do.
The only thing I can tell from listening to local radio is that tension with Shildt started back around the time Flaherty got hurt and the lack of moves to bolster the pitching staff.
But there didn't seem to be a plan to fire him until they had the year end meetings and apparently he said something that really pissed Mozeliak off.
My guess is that the Cardinals again won't be a big player in the free agent market and Shildt wasn't happy when he was told that. That's just my own speculation.
