A church can't "lose" it's tax-exempt status because there was no process to grant one to begin with.
A church is completely outside the IRS enforcement system when it comes to income tax exemptions.
Many people do not want the IRS to wade into religion. So... this is the result.
This is another area where maybe the GOP, instead of whining, needs to do the same as the Democrats. I'm sure the media will crap bricks... but again... nothing the IRS can do.

It most certainly can lose its tax exempt status….
