Explain the 90s to you? That’s the simplest thing in the world- Joe Dean.

He was a cheap arse AD who made multiple bad hires and didn’t spend money on facilities. He reinforced an existing narrative that LSU was and would always be cheap. Look at what happened as soon as he lost control over the athletic department- 20 straight years of success.

Coaching matters, but overall athletic program leadership matters even more.

coaching matters but there are other factors too like money. Prior to Emmert and Saban, LSU was running shoestring athletic department our facilities were crap we weren't making anything near the revenue we do now. The instate talent was always there, that's why people called LSU a sleeping giant, getting your act together means putting in the resources (money, administrative support) to build the program.

This sounds exactly like Georgia under Greg McCheapity (McGarity) and everybody before him. If GM had gotten his way in 2016, Dopey Dan fricking Mullen would be the Georgia head football coach. The boosters had to overrule him to get Kirby the job.

Damn right athletic department leadership matters.
