Yeah it started during the pandemic. Demand plummeted, so manufacturers cut orders for chips and parts accordingly. No one anticipated the incredible bounce back, and they’ve been trying to play catch-up ever since. All the chip orders went to device makers, which was an obvious market during the pandemic, and there is very little supply for autos. Tack on the global supply chain issues for other parts, and you get this situation.

Yeah, if you had told me a year ago that the apocalyptic GPU shortage was going to basically foreshadow shortages in damned near every facet of life, I definitely would have called you a crazy doomer
