Russ Calloway from analyst to OC would be a failure. And if Orgeron told Peetz he had to take Calloway as PGC because he promised it to him….we would be roasting Orgeron for that too.

Not saying Calloway didn’t deserve a better role but hiring a new OC, you have to expect he’s going to bring his own guys like Mangas. Orgeron still sucks but this is a little bit of a reach.

Disagree. I think Callaway could have handled OC or at least PGC way better than Peetz. He had 5 successful years as OC/QB/WR coaching experience and coached QB Devlin Hodges (won Walter Payton Award 2018). He also coached back to back championships at Alabama for Saban on the defensive side of the ball with Kirby. He has proven he can call plays. Peetz doesn’t have a record of doing anything worth mentioning. You want an OC or play caller, then at least hire one with an inkling of experience. Peetz isn’t even in the same caliber as Callaway. Max is losing confidence with Peetz.

Does Calloway have any area ties? Or once he left, was that bridge burned forever?

My point is Orgeron clearly was trying to recreate the magic of 2019. If he hired a guy who never called plays before in Joe Brady and it was a homerun, I’m sure he thought it would work out with Peetz based on Joe Brady’s recommendation. When it was time to replace Aranda, he hired a coach who had been coaching and calling defenses for over a decade and that experience didnt mean two shits because they all failed at installing it.

It’s easy to say Calloway would have been better now seeing how horrible Peetz has done. I just think it’s a reach to expect Orgeron to bet on Calloway over Joe Brady’s recommendation.
