Lake Decade Marsh

Somebody learn me on the Lake Decade area and the marsh around it. Never fished there before but thinking about making a trip down there within the next 3/4 weeks.

Never fished it either but I would imagine that the marsh is pretty messed up with lots of debris. If you go be very careful. Ida brought in a big surge in that area and moved a bunch of stuff around. Hell we have 70-100 ft shrimp boats laid in the marsh and bayous in Southern Lafourche parish.

It’s a horrible place to fish. Never really catch anything other than hardheads. You’d probably be happier fishing somewhere else.

I'm picking up what you're putting down.

15 years ago, it was a great place to catch specs. Simply launch, go a few miles down Falgout Canal to the lake, and just let the wind drift you across the lake while fishing. We'd limit out on specs in just a few hours. Now, the water in Lake Decade is a little too fresh. You'll need to go across Decade and get to Lake Mechant area. We never caught huge trout there, just an easy solid limit. My largest trout there was around 22" long.
If you have a smaller boat, you can also launch right off Hwy 182 into Black Bayou, go through a small salt water control structure, and down Minor's Canal for about 5 miles to the lake. You can usually pick up a few bass in that Minor's Canal on the way back in. I can no longer use that route because of the height of my newer boat.

It is almost 12 miles to the lake. I would like to buy land from you.

Well, it's been a while since I launched at Cannon's and ran that route.
Wasn't there a farm with exotic animals on the way down Minor's canal?

Eh could be wrong, but I don’t think so. Bayou Dularge floodgate by Jug’s was reading around -2.0ft on the outside during the storm and the water didn’t really get above normal levels once it passed through.
As for the marsh, can’t speak for areas between Sister Lake and Dulac. I’d imagine it’s pretty tore up. But the marshes on the western end of the parish around Lost Lake and Four League Bay look pretty good, all things considered.

At one time they had a couple of Bison, ostrich’s and a lot of birds.
The Mexican ducks took over the house as a roost and destroyed the pond.

I guess you would be absolutely right on the surge height. I guess I was thinking they got the surge we did in lower lafourche but being on the west side of the eye would have made a huge difference.
