Lollapalooza got them lumped. They toured with those acts as they were blowing up nationally. They were played on the same stations.
As already mentioned. The first few bands formed pretty organically. Then yes record companies stepped in and threw flannel on everything and Doc Martens. Many did start out as hair metal bands. These guys are older than most of the guys posting in this thread. I assume. They are all in their 50’s. Or would be if they lived. Their first groups they dabbled in were more metal and older punk. They later grew into their sounds. Tunings, amps, effects, writing. It all became dark and brooding more than screwing girls.
It was a great time to be alive for your ears. Your eyes? Not so much. Not nearly the number of hot groupies. Or women dressed like sluts.
