I’d say the people not showing up because of the requirement are pissed off because of the obvious virtue signaling by the university and not the enforcement of it.

No one wore masks in stadium and no one is enforcing it
As far as vaccine card
They are checking at gate but there is no way to prove it’s you if you are not vaccinated
They are not checking your id

No doubt, and it’s obvious LSU wanted the National headline and nothing else

For the record. I was asked to show my vaccine card the first game but not the second. Wore a mask the first game until I entered the stadium but didn’t wear one the second game. Seems very loosely enforced (thankfully)

Exactly

To my knowledge there is no other SEC school with such requirements, and there are very few across the nation with such. The fact that, as the OP notes, LSU only half-assed tries to "enforce" it clearly states the requirements have NOTHING to do with a concern for public safety and EVERYTHING to do with political/university leaders wanting to leverage LSU football to force people to cave to their political whims. There are some, perhaps many, who love LSU football but simply don't want to participate in that political game. So they are choosing not to attend

I know I’m in the minority here but I’d actually be less pissed off if they actually DID enforce it. By choosing to not enforce shite, it makes it obvious it is ALL political theatre.

And I will tell you that LSU's campus COVID-19 policies (football included) are more to do with internal LSU politics. More specifically, a subset of activist faculty pissed off at President Tate for not imposing stricter COVID-19 policies on campus, including for football games since those same subset of faculty (some of them are well known given their presence on social media) are pissed about having to teach in person in classes that are not following the 50% capacity policy that was imposed last spring. that is, classes of 100 or more had to be off campus on remote/on-line, classes under 100 on campus but had to be in a room where the number of students were no more than 50% capacity.

Even today based on some of my campus sources (academic side) these issues are still very hot an heavy. So much so that the LSU BOS and President Tate are wanting to disband a group led by one of these LSU faculty subsets that are active in social media that act outside the bounds of what is the official LSU academic/faculty body that votes on the interest of the LSU Faculty, Instructors, the Faculty of LSU Senate or something to that effect.

So again talking to some folks that I go to Church with and live in my neighborhood that work in academics at LSU and share things about campus politics, there are now and have been all summer conflicts between a large vocal subset of LSU academics and President Tate about what LSU's COVID-19 policies should be. This subset wanted them much stronger than what is in place now.

And I am a season ticket holder who as of yet has not gone to a home game. Not out of protest, I just want to see how the COVID-19 policy works and see what the data look like. Seems to be working well, no major spikes and people I talked to said they got in pretty efficiently, so I plan to be at the Auburn game.
