I'm cautious in my anticipation of this show. You can definitely cut about 100 pages off each book if you stop mentioning nyneave pulling on her braid or one of the mean girls sniffing loudly, but two books is a lot of material for 8 episodes per season.
Yeah, there's a lot going on to be only 8 episodes, I agree. I wasn't super excited after seeing the trailer either, looked like all the emphasis is on the magic aspect vs other story lines.

It was a teaser, not the official trailer.
Showrunner already said there would be a full trailer out as well. They completely hid the entire plotline in that teaser, I think by design.
