What is your summary of changes observed last night?

I noticed Flott and Burns playing Safety a lot. Harris came in with the 2's.
Everytime it was a passing down Bech came in Taylor went out.
Obviously play calling added some screens.
WR's getting the targets: KB, Bech, Smith, Lee
Seemed to be a direct effort for Baskerville and Clark to get downhill quickly
What else you all see?

Brian Thomas should also see increased playing time. He is a mis-match

Much more tempo last night. When it was 2nd or 3rd and short, team was running to the line to snap. They weren’t allowing defensive adjustments in crucial situations.

I should have added his name in my list for target but he did not see many passes but he was on the field a lot in the game. I remember one play where we were just inside the 20 and Thomas was lined up one on one with the CB and he had to have a 8" height advantage. I thought for sure they would throw him a fade to the corner but the play went a different route and it was successful, so much for my play calling.

Pretty sure Cam Lewis started at safety. I’m ok with keeping him there. Just start him with Ward when Ward comes back.

Everything was better, they are improving. Kiner and Besh need to be more a focal point of the offense. Kiner needs more touches than price. I pray Anthony is ok and just twisted his knee. LSU d add some timely blitz packages and they can be really good on defense. Johnson has about 10 brain fart plays a game where he reverts back to high school. No big deal against CM, problem in sec play. Nuss is not ready for prime time yet, but he has great tools and huge upside.

Dont know which started but he was certainly in there a lot. I was just shocked to see Flott playing deep safety and he played it several plays.

It was a point of discussion on the post game show as I was driving home. Several "veterans" were replaced with the freshman youth movement. Not completely but more like moved up the depth chart.

1)Throwing downfield more, in the long run, will open up the run game.
2)Diagnosing better with the back 7 of the defense, even though they had a couple mental breakdowns, it’s getting better.
3)Not doing the check with me’s and it helped Johnson out

i noticed a couple of things that were encouraging:
(1) more tempo - we didn’t allow the D to check, especially on 2nd and 3rd and short/medium
(2) more playing time for freshman who are obviously better then their ‘veteran’ counterparts, ie. d. smith, bech, m. smith, kiner. they need to be starters from here on out in my opinion.
(3) actual offensive adjustments to what the defense what showing throughout the game. we took shots downfield when the matchup presented it. we ran RPOs in great spots.
overall there were several things that were encouraging.

Not sure Flott played safety, maybe he just had deep coverage assignment on some plays.
Safeties looked to be Lewis/ Burns to start, then Toles/ Harris late.

LSU will be competitive in most of the games on the remaining schedule. The exception: Bama and Florida. Those could be blowouts.
The looming problem I see. You've got to have a domineering O/L to compete in any conference, especially the SEC. IMO LSU will be forced to allocate potential receivers (RB's) to help protect Max. So does that mean LSU is reduced to sending out two receivers in the middle of a swarm of opposing DB's? We'll soon find out.
For sure, LSU will have to figure out a way to slow down that defensive rush, and the only way I see they can do that is utilize those RB's as blockers. But not all RB's are Clyde Edwards-Helaire clones. Should be interesting.
