I guess the argument is how young is too young to experience the consequences of the chosen behavior. Jail might be too harsh. They should thank their lucky stars this kid didn't commit suicide. But a ban from playing school sports is not unwarranted consequences in the least for this bullying behavior. Perhaps they should be homeschooled and away from other students until college.

The adults that knew about this and simply warned the perps should lose their jobs. They are not qualified as teachers and should not be in a school if they cannot protect students.

Why do you assume adults knew about it. Hell I saw kids bullied in jr. high and high school in the 80’s. Most of the time it occurred when no adults were present. Every boy in my 6th grade class was called to the principals office for picking on (bullying) a kid. Kids are mean always have been always will be, I’d bet almost all kids that attend school public & private have been bullied at some point.

Definitely deserves fairly severe punishment. When these types of things get swept under the rug it can eventually lead to young adults like Brock Turner with his rape or Ethan Couch with his affluenza.
