No one "celebrated" Lee. He's a major part of American history... well at least the real part of history and not the made up one you probably know.

Having these kind of statues is an example of celebrating. Also, considering when these statues were either created or brought in from other countries (primarily in the post Civil War era) these statues were part of a broader objective of upholding white supremacy during the lily white movement, an actual movement that began during the late 19th century, which was basically backlash towards economic progress of black people at that time.

So is Lee Harvey Oswald. Where's his statue?

Tell me you didn't know any KA's in college without telling me you didn't know any KA's in college.

One of the dumbest fricking things I’ve ever seen
How many statues of Benedict Arnold or General Cornwallis do we have? How many public statues of Aaron Burr do we have?
All of those guys played a huge part in American history. But you build statues to celebrate people.
“They’re erasing history”
Did you learn about the civil war looking at fricking statues? No. This statue isn’t even contemporary to the civil war.
People will say shite like this when it’s a statue that literally puts the person up on a pedestal.
