Completely stupid to challenge that call.

It was the difference of 13 yards of a crucial field goal in overtime, and it was successful. How was it a bad challenge
Also to the OP, I believe there was a RB cutting out of the backfield that was within a few yards. Was looking for a video to confirm but couldn’t find a quick one. Could be wrong on that tho

I though it hit the defender.

Same reason balls slipping out of the hand isn’t grounding.

I would figure you to understand the rules a little better

The penalty is "intentional grounding". A pass slipping out of your hand isn't intentional, therefore it isn't a penalty

He was desperately trying to get rid of the ball, in the pocket, under pressure, throwing to nobody in particular, and the ball didn’t cross the line of scrimmage. Meets every criteria of intentional grounding, but simply because the ball appears to “slip” out of his hands (which here was clearly AFTER a sort of pump fake type motion to a back who wasn’t looking) it somehow alleviates it all and the ball just goes back to the line of scrimmage?
I still don’t see how if THAT was deemed an incomplete pass it wasn’t INTENTIONAL grounding. If he was intending the pass to the back in the vicinity, there’s simply no way the ball slips out of his hand in the spot where it did, which the replay clearly shows - he was sill clutching the ball through what would have been the entire motion of throwing to that back.

IDK, but obviously the coach needs to be fired.

Because he wasn't intentionally throwing the ball. You're being obtuse

Who was he throwing it to?
ETA, Or are you suggesting there really is such a thing as an “unintentional” pass? That seems like an absurdity, doesn’t it?

No, it seems like something that happens relatively commonly throughout the course of a season.

This is the rule
quote:
I. Quarterback who is not outside the tackle box, and is attempting to save yardage, intentionally throws a desperation forward pass that falls incomplete where there is no eligible receiver.
Milton began a pass attempt, but, mid-attempt, decided to tuck the ball back. However, he was unable to prevent the ball from leaving his hand.
The fact that his intention was to keep the ball disqualifies the attempt from being intentional grounding.

It hit a defender which would make it like a batted down pass and not grounding

Thats definetely a fumble. He tried to pull the ball back because at the last second he didnt want to throw it. Fumble all the way.

All I know is he iced his own kicker with that challenge.
And he made the 50 yarder.

If you intend to pass but then change your mind halfway through the motion; it's a fricking pass...whether it slips out or you fricking Tuck it back in like that stupid old rule.
If arm going forward is always considered a pass when fumbling the ball, then arm going forward is still a pass when grounding if you're about to get sacked easily and there's no receiver in sight and you're in the fricking pocket.
Football loves to part and parcel their rules. There's no fricking uniformity. It's ridiculous. I don't care how the ball leaves your hand...or if you changed your mind and wanted to TUCK IT back in, if you avoid AN OBVIOUS SACK, it's grounding if all the other criteria is met...and they were in this case.
It's WAY TOO SUBJECTIVE to say, oops ref, silly me, it slipped out of my hand. My bad.
