Same thing recently. I followed the guy 2 or 3 blocks to a convenience store & returned his card. He graciously thanked me several times & paid for my small purchase ( under $5). Don't let a jerk like that discourage you from helping others. Most people are genuinely grateful.



Back to the OP. I don't understand removing the contents. I would have just kept it myself (if I didn't trust the employees) and found him myself and given it to the police if I couldn't.

My thought was that he would return to where he last remembered his wallet and retrieve it then find the note to contact me for his cash and CC. I felt the chances of me finding him were slim so if he got the wallet he could then call me.

Leaving the cash in the wallet was not an option for him to ever get his money back from the store
