Have an Endodontist do it.

This happened to me about a month ago. Antibiotic worked very quickly on swelling and pain. Root canal about a week later. Everything is good now. Root canal: $1500.

I’m a dentist and I would advise any friend or family getting a molar rct done to have it done by an endodontist. Without questioning your dentists abilities I’ve see a lot of crap out there and they’re too easy to mess up
Painting with a broad brush here.
All dentists should be trained and be able to do a root canal if the patient needs one and a specialist is not available.
90% of the root canals are being done by the general dentist and if every dentist heeded your advice, the endodontists could not handle the vastly increased demand.

I accept what you say as true.
In my specific case, my dentist did could not confirm the suspected fracture since he didn’t have the high magnification equipment and referee me to an endo. Maybe he would have tried it if it was an obvious fracture.
My take away from this experience is to take your best shot first. The quality and extent of the pain was quite exquisite while waiting for the endo appointment. If there was only a 1% chance of improved outcome with the endo, I’d still go that route.

I just canceled my root canal with the regular dentist and have an appointment with the endo that's very highly reviewed and seems to have the latest tech (microscopes, scans, etc.).
Thanks everyone.
Thanks everyone.
