If you are over thirty you should hire movers.
EXACTLY.
And you hit the age right on the spot.
I am 6'3"+ and in my 20's I was about 200 lbs. I think people just looked at me and immediately thought, "DAMN -- now he would make a great mover! Next time I move he's the first sap I'm calling." I actually had people I didn't even f*cking know (friends of friends and even friend of friends of friends) ask me if I would help them move.
Of course, it always came with f*cking obligatory "I'll pay for the beer and pizza" -- as if I gave a f*ck as I could buy my own pizza and beer and wouldn't have to spend my day in the grueling hot sun moving f*cking furniture. And, of course, at the end of the day they would buy enough so that each person would get 1 semi-hot beer and about 1/2 of a slice of f*cking pizza.
At one point in my early 20's I had been asked to move so many f*cking people that I just put an end to it. If you weren't in my immediate family or in my immediate circle of friend, I would literally just laugh people off and walk away as if I just assumed they were f*cking joking. It seemed to work pretty darn well.
Once I turned 30 I would tell people (other than VERY IMMEDIATE FAMILY) that I retired from the moving profession once I turned 30 and advised them to hire movers -- LIKE EVERYONE OVER 30 SHOULD DO.
ETA: And, THE WORST F*CKING THING OF ALL about helping friends and "friends of friends" move is that you would tell them that they need to have EVERYTHING boxed up and ready so that we don't have to sit there in the f*cking sun all day while they are still boxing sh!t up. And, like f*cking clockwork, they NEVER had anything f*cking ready. I would estimate that maybe 5-10% of people had even f*cking started to box things up before us movers would arrive.
And, before you ask -- YES, people asking me to help them move became a HUGE pet peeve of mine when I was in my teens, 20's, and 30's. Once you hit 40, nonfamily members generally stop asking.
