That's mostly because successfully vaccinating against coronaviruses wasn't something we succeeded in before, because our own immunity against the normal stuff we encounter only lasts... 6-8 months for the common cold. This held true with the contained SARS and MERS as well. This is the closest we've come and took something novel going global in a few months to really make the try. And we're actually most the way there. Minus the hold outs for either Luddite, low IQ, or political reasons. I mean trying to be sarcastic about the article saying the vaccine as currently formulated isn't the best protection shows how dumb the OP is. Because it's still better protection than none and if a boost with the same formulation wins out against delta we're good while we scramble for answers to lambda and beyond. It's the viral warfare equivalent of open carry with mRNA. But you're either scared of 40yo tech, don't actually understand what you're reading, or made this a weird hill to die on about gov't authority.

I believe my risk is lower with a previous infection than it is with the vaccine.

But that was a solid effort for a non-regular poster on this board.

This goes back to my original point when the virus first hit. It's about risk homeostasis. People operate at different levels of fear.
I road a motorcycle without a helmet for years until it resulted in a ticket. I drove my cars for decades without a seat belt before it was a ticket.
I play golf if a lightening storm is coming.
There are tons of precautions I could take that offer better protection than none. That's not how I choose to live my life. If you want be very safe, that's fine with me. It's a free country.
For now.

and DUMB AS A BOX OF HAMMERS; Again, how do you sleep at night attacking free Americans posing as something you are not.

natural immunity is so beyond any of your contrived politicized gene therapies, its not even funny OR CLOSE... but in response to your sheep targeted idiocy:

"But there’s promising news to be found within natural and acquired immunity statistics, according to virologists. As of May 29, CDC estimated more than 120 million Americans— more than one in three— had already battled Covid. While an estimated six-tenths of one-percent died, the other 99.4% of those infected survived with a presumed immune status that appears to be superior to that which comes with vaccination.

If doctors could routinely test to confirm who has fought off and become immune to Covid-19, it would eliminate the practical need or rationale for those protected millions to get vaccinated. It would also allow them to avoid even the slight risk of serious vaccine side effects."

This disinformation needs to stop. We never had a successful coronavirus vaccine in the past, is because the named virus disappeared before they could find a shot that didn't keep killing their test animals.

Not because there wasn't a need.
quote:

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) emerged in China in 2002 and spread to other countries before brought under control. Because of a concern for reemergence or a deliberate release of the SARS coronavirus, vaccine development was initiated. Evaluations of an inactivated whole virus vaccine in ferrets and nonhuman primates and a virus-like-particle vaccine in mice induced protection against infection but challenged animals exhibited an immunopathologic-type lung disease.
