Its a way for government to show their control and that they are "doing something". You can't illustrate you are "doing something" with social distancing or hand washing or vaccines. As per the Germany vs. Sweeden graphs in this thread, nothing illustrates the futility of masks more and I think I read Germany mandates the n95? Though I may have that wrong but either way irrelevant. You can mandate all you want but again, the real world is not a controlled environment or an operating room where proper wearing practices and proper cleaning etc are strictly adhered to, in fact it's nothing of the sort and never will be anywhere close to that.

And it's so obvious and so simple I think even most of the maskers really know deep down the truth.

But too many folks have put themselves out there to turn back without egg on their face and as you say it's a way to give the illusion that Big Brother is doing something tangible to help.
