By the time that 1918 rolled around the corner, the most advanced thinkers on the topic of Infantry Tactics had already convinced their military systems to adopt the "Stoss" tactics that the German Stoss troops were using. These tactics are more like what we see today in tactical warfare, i.e. based on infiltration and by-passing enemy strongpoints and using infantry maneuver units as small as a half-squad.
