The parallel to what happened in Vietnam is very close, yes, because by 1975, the USA had removed all military support and air support to South Vietnam.
In 1975, the South Vietnamese Army fought very hard, but, North Vietnam had amassed too much military power on the ground to be denied victory.
The USA, once again, fails to learn anything from its own Military History.
This is not new. In World War One, the US Army and USMC trained its infantry in linear infantry tactics in which the infantry Company would line up and advance the enemy front line. These linear infantry tactics were discredited by the year 1865, but, the US military system hadn't learned this lesson, not even by the year 1918.
Go figure! The USA is just stupid, when it comes to too many very important things that nation-states should learn to do well.
