There was a vaccine for smallpox by then. The smallpox vaccine was invented by 1800.

But, smallpox is many many times more serious for military aged males than Rona.

So I should just be ok with forced vaccinations because George Washington did it?
Thebes won a war by having a band of gay lovers. I wouldn't recommend forcing the public to do something just because it worked in a war once.
