There is zip about natural immunity being in the 42% to 87% range concerning the Delta variant. There are studies that show it works at a higher percentage (90%+), but nothing in the range that you suggested (“effectively the same”).

There's actually quite a bit of research on this subject for both covid and other mRNA vaccines.
But think about it; both an infection and a vaccine are intended to do one thing: produce an immune response and generate antibodies. You can read about how these work in vivo here: LINK
