About a year ago, there was a thread on the Rant that went at least 15-16 pages. One side argued, quite passionately, that the fact they bought (or their daddy bought them) a ticket, gave them an open invitation to yell the f-bomb and numerous other obsenities as they chose regardless of the feelings and ages of the people around them. Shouting profanity when you're drunk is one thing, but these fans weren't remorseful or embarrassed even when they sobered up. It showed me that some people are just too caught up in their own immaturity to consider others, and to behave respectfully.

For those of you, like me, who would like your fellow Tiger fans to show the anthem (all 70 seconds of it) the respect it deserves, FORGET IT. It'll never happen. There is a reason why so many people consider LSU fans some of the crudest in the nation. This is just more evidence they are right.

I do understand where those who find it disrespectful are coming from.

But in the same right I would hope they would see the other view of things.

I have always been proud of my country and those who defend it.

I am also extremely proud to be able to attend this university, which to my knowledge is due to those brave men and women who have served or will serve our country.

But there is a time and a place for everything.

I can't image someone questioning my patriotism and respect over a little school spirit (also freedom of speech).

quote:

LSU's mascot refers to a famed Louisiana brigade whose fierce fighting earned them the nickname "the Louisiana Tigers." Chatham Roberdeau Wheat organized what became known as "Wheat's Special Battalion", or the "Louisiana Tigers." Arriving in Virginia just in time to participate in the First Battle of Bull Run, Wheat and his Tigers performed well in combat. Wheat and his battalion served honorably in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and the Peninsula Campaign. After Wheat’s death, the fabled "Hays' brigade," commanded by Harry Thompson Hays renamed themselves "The Louisiana Tigers" in honor of Wheat. So when I sing “Home of the Tigers” instead of “Home of the Brave”, I am honoring Brave men who have fought for this country.

I could not agree with this more.

Oh please. No one thinks that LSU fans are the crudest in the nation because we yell "Home of the Tigers" or even because we yell the F-bomb. Hell, the Wisconsin student section yells "frick you! Eat shite!" to each other. I'm sure everyone's seen the video of a mass of Penn State students pelting a lone Ohio State fan with beer cans. The reason that LSU fans have whatever reputation that we do have is because of the perception of the culture of Louisiana as it is portrayed in the media, of course along with certain experiences like the tipping over of a port-a-potty with a Georgia fan inside and laying seige to the Tennessee bus in 2005.
