I read a great book on this. At the time of the books writing, it was already available with drones and the tech was developed during the Iraq war to stop IED cells. They’d watch over a city, an IED go off, then watch the area in rewind to see who placed the bomb and where their safe houses went.

After the war ended, police departments started asking for the tech and it was used in a few cities but the book said at time of writing, it was not widely used due to privacy laws.
