Looking for suggestions on who in Louisiana does fish replica mounts. My son caught a 26” speck that he’s begging to put on the wall.

Just have it done by the guys in Florida. There are 2 really good companies that do them. The names are escaping me at the moment.

ETA: Just remembered, New Wave is the most prominent one.

New Wave and Gray Taxidermy. Not sure if there are any companies local or closer to LA that do fiberglass mounts at such a high level.

My Dad has a Marlin mount done by Gray. It's a great piece.

I know they do good work, but get ready to pay. I just laughed at what the guy told me for a rooster fish replica.

It is quite expensive. Shipping a large fish is pricey in addition to the mount itself. I imagine a trout would be much less.

If fiberglass mounts are out of the spending range then there are some very talented artists who could create a painting of the scene, or your son and his fish. Not exactly the same but still a visual display you can point to and remember the experience.

the big replica dealers are going to sell you a standard trout for $500

Girth and paint will not match the fish

I’m looking at gray’s just for fun. So essentially every bass or trout will be the exact same size and shape, maybe painted a little different? That’s dumb.

What is the purpose of getting a replica? Why not just have the fish you caught mounted instead of a fish that looks like your fish hanging on the wall.

If I catch a trophy fish, it’s getting released. I, and a ton other fisherman nowadays, are much more conservation minded and preserving the fishery for future generations is at the forefront of the movement. That’s where replicas comes into play instead of skin mounts.

Fish don’t live forever. If you caught an older fish it might not have many months left naturally. Also, I read a study for releasing bass that 30% of them will die even when released immediately and without trauma. Most of these will die 2-3 days after being released.

I am team ziplock bag. I just look at my local lakes yearly stocking numbers to squash any feelings I might have against keeping fish.
