There are no European socialist countries. You are referring to the Nordic countries, I assume, and Sweden primarily. Sweden is an intensely capitalist country - way more so then the USA - and it also has a generous social safety net.

Sweden used to be socialist, and their country was going down the toilet. In the 1990’s they reversed course and privatized companies in a successful effort to spur their economy.

IMO, the generous welfare state will eventually be their undoing as each generation will have a weaker work ethic. They are doing just as all western nations are - spending the moral capital that was built by necessity.
