This but he is also calling out the hypocrisy of Ted in a sort of way. Ted is kind of a stand in father for all the characters when they need a pep talk or friend. Nate saw this and wished his dad was more like Ted. He then starts to realize maybe Ted isn’t the best father to his own son, since he isn’t there for him.

Nate’s a dick obviously. And his anger is misplaced. But what he said about this is accurate. And Ted knows it. Interesting that Nate said it and not Dr. Fieldstone.
