Lots of good metal around,...I'll try to help.

You are probably right...I may not know what metal is anymore...I like Pantera, LoG style music, as I love groove metal...it could be that I just like hard rock, but I think most metalheads would still consider Pantera and LoG metal, except for maybe Clint (he's into a whole different game)...the problem I've always had when trying to find new bands is this: I actually like a bit of melody from the singer...doesn't have to be all clean vocals, or even mostly clean, but I do like SOME clean vocals...Demon Hunter comes to mind...anyway, now that you know, throw me a bone...

ETA: Okay I just checked out THC and I like it...which album would you guys recommend I digest first? Preferably their heaviest...

I usually look up a band I like on Spotify and then go to "related artists". Then just go down the rabbit hole....

Yeah, I feel you. I grew up on Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth etc. I'll think on it and get back to you, currently working. Off the top of my head though, Sevendust may fit your criteria, as well as Trivium. How do you feel about female vocalists? Spiritbox is pretty awesome imo. Just a few examples:

Sevendust:
Home
Decay

Trivium:
Strife
Throes of Perdition

Spiritbox:
Rule of Nines
Holy Roller

Testament:
Children of The Next Level
Return to Serenity

Been playing guitar for 23 years, and metal/rock is far and away my favorite genre. I'm familiar with a TON of bands, so if any of those interest you, I can certainly recommend more bands, or more from those bands. Unfortunately Pantera is one of those generational bands that can't really be replicated.

Just adding some stuff randomly here and there:

Strapping Young Lad:
Love
Aftermath

Sikth:
Sanguine Seas of Bigotry
Bland Street Bloom

Sikth's singer is out there, but their music is badass. He can sing well when he feels like it, but has his own thing going on. UK band so take it for what it is.

Vola:
Straight Lines
Stone Leader Falling Down

Devildriver:
End of The Line
Grinfricked

Coal Chamber's singer heads this band. Massively better than CC.

From your description I have to ask if you have tried Jinjer, Prog, groove, metalcore whatever you try to box them into a genre but they are a force. Tight and technical band with an amazing and hot as hell singer in Tatiana.

Jinjer-Perenneal live

Also have become a big fan of a new all female band from a Japan called Nemophila. Also tend to bend genres but have amazing musicians and a unique vocalist.

Nemophila-Dissension
