Kid leaves home for college. Kid doesn’t feel comfortable and wants to quit. If he’s a valuable player, coaches move mountains to make him comfortable. If he’s not projected to contribute, he quietly leaves.

But usually it takes 18 months to realize you’ve missed on a player. This took 18 days.
