mccartney says that in the rubin doc...they always tried to have a ringo song on each album because the fans wanted it.
For our parents in the 60's, "Ringo" was shorthand for a guy in a rock and roll band. If you asked them to name all four Beatles they'd say, "Well, Ringo... and..."

how-evah...ringo's "composing" with regard to drum patterns and fills was extraordinary. go back and listen to "tomorrow never knows" for a great example
Agree with that. And I always wonder why he doesn't get any sort of writing credit for that kind of thing. I know that Paul and John mostly came into the sessions with the songs in their heads and they "taught" it to everyone else, but surely music was still created on the spot by everyone else.

quote:Not how it works. You'd have to rewrite a good portion of the music or lyrics to get added as a co-writer. Unless the main writer or writers wanted to gift you with co-ownership. Some bands have thrown fits and demanded that all songs be credited to the band and not individual members. That never works out well.

Ringo gets credit with L/M on What Goes On?, a nice country tune on Yesterday and Today

I'm a little behind but I finally bit the bullet and signed up for HULU after BluegrassBelle in the GET BACK thread turned me on to this McCartney 3, 2,1 series.
I'm one episode in and it is fvcking fantastic. It's not as linear a storyline as say the chronological documentation of the Get Back events, but man, the stories/anecdotes and behind-the-scenes details of the Beatles songs & moments are absolutely amazing.
It's another entree' if you still have an appetite for some Beatles.

About the only time this has worked well that I know of is REM.
A large number of their songs are credited to Berry/Buck/Mills/Stipe, and a bunch more are just Buck/Mills/Stipe.
