Hitting Sherman on the Lake County side (Iowa Gulch) is pretty easy. Road is rocky but you could get a car up there clearance wise. Wife took the day off too and we went hiking.
And you absolutely should too. The wildflowers back there are on another level.

Some pics from back near and along the Mt. Sherman trail. Weather was sketchy enough that I wasn't trying to summit today.
