You're talking west to east. Heycap is talking east to west. Whole different ballgame in the wind department.

And as he mentioned the problem is compounded by the fact that Johannesburg is at 5k+ feet. It gets hot there to boot. All that to say, if you're full of pax and cargo, you can only hold so much gas while bucking a headwind headed west. I've never flown a leg like that, but I can imagine fuel is a commodity.

HeyCap mentioned the 777LR having issues and I have to believe the A350 would really struggle as few airframes can compare to the triple in that regime.
