People make fun of Louisiana for being dumb, drunk, poor, obsessed with football, lazy, or being the perpetual victims of natural disasters, but few hate the state. For most folks, it’s a really fun place to party and eat for a few days, but not live in full time.
TBH, I’m convinced that a significant percentage of Americans not only couldn’t find Louisiana on a map, but don’t even know that Louisiana is a part of the U.S.

I;'m sure there is a significant portion of the population that think the State's name is New Orleans.

I think you’re wrong there. Louisiana, along with Texas, California, Alaska, Florida and Hawaii, is one of the easiest states to find on the map. Plus, everyone learns about the Louisiana Purchase, and it’s a state that stands out culturally (cultchalarly?)
