So I adopted a mutt 6 months ago. Was 3 months old when I got him. Male. Mostly Boxer/Rhodesian. Was a good dog. Gentle with kids good disposition.
Adopted through county and brought him to my vet. Was current on all shots.
This afternoon was upstairs and heard the strangest howl/wail. Ran downstairs and pup was convulsing on deck. I did dog CPR but he was pretty much DOA.
No swelling or blood. Looked like cataracts on eyes I’d never seen before. Anyway. Kinda in shock. Never had a dog pass this way and haven’t heard of it. No reason to suspect poison or anything else. Just trying to figure out what could have happened. Any help is appreciated.
FYI: I also have an extremely gentle older male dog who is fine. Was sitting near him watching the whole thing. No throwing up or anything else that may be a sign of trouble. Pup ate fine this am. Seemed healthy as a horse right up until he passed. Thanks all.

Could have been but the healthy disposition 15 minutes prior and the loud Yelp lead me to think it was something more sudden. Could have been though. No clue....

Sorry to hear that.
Would need to get the vet to do a necropsy. Could have been a seizure or blood clot. But you definitely want to find out in case there's something out there that might be a threat to the other dog.

Snake maybe? One killed my neighbor's dog a few years ago.

Sounds like his stomach twisted. Very common in big chested dogs. You gotta watch how fast they eat.

I guess it coulda been but he was up on porch. The Yelp was from porch which is up off ground. Haven’t seen a snake here in 5 years. But anything is possible.
Yelp was very odd; not one of pain but more confusion/sadness. Was odd. Thanks for help.

Sorry for your loss. You mentioned part boxer so it made me think of something I went through. Boxers are prone to cardiomyopathy. That's enlargement of the heart. Makes the heart fail & boom, they're done. I love boxers more than any dog but I've lost six in my life to all of their various health problems they have. For me it's mutts the rest of the way now. I have 2 & they're both great dogs. Once again, sorry for your loss.

Let us know what happened after the vet checks it.
I had a 1-2yo medium sized mutt die in his sleep with zero prior symptoms on my son's bed one morning. Hurtful as frick to explain to a 2.5yr old why his dog is so "sleepy and cold." Other than post mortem fluid leakage, there was ZERO signs of discomfort or struggle. He was just laying exactly where/how he normally sleeps stiff as a board.

Acute death with very young Boxers or Rhodesian’s make me concerned for a heart problem, like subaortic stenosis or some other difficult to detect congenital heart condition.
Otherwise, very tough to say. Necropsy may give you more info. I’m a vet in Vegas btw
